The relationship between health & suicide: What do we know?
The complex factors influencing the emergence of suicidality for a person have often been overshadowed by the focus on their mental health. While this may be an important consideration for some, research continues to demonstrate the interaction between persons’ psychosocial and health needs, as potential protective factors from suicide.
In this webinar, we will examine current research on risk and protective factors for suicide, with a particular focus on health-related factors. Further, we will describe the challenges in drawing conclusions from research where there may be a lack of evidence correlating various health-related factors (including mental health) and the risk for suicide. Indeed, we will argue that suicide research should be published to advance our understanding, including where (correlational) findings are confirmed, inconclusive, or disproved.
