Post-traumatic Stress Disorder & suicide
This presentation will focus on Andy, a UK fire officer who resigned to suicide after the trauma of digging for the remains of friends, all New York firefighters, at Ground Zero after 9/11. In 2008 Dr Durkin spent a day with Andy using techniques that demanded he reviews all he could remember from that time. Then, in 2011 Andy contacted Dr Durkin declaring he was still alive, approaching retirement, and happier than ever; he attributed it all to that day three years earlier. Using Andy’s own words a story of survival, achievement and ambition will be told that might inspire hope, confidence, and a positive future for anyone affected by posttraumatic stress disorder and the fear of suicide.
