Dean Southgate is completing a Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs. He is a valuable Peer Consultant within the team, with lived experience of substance dependence, mental health and suicidality. Dean has a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with people impacted by substance dependence, having worked as an AOD Worker for 9 years. His personal and work experience leverage incredible gains for those he works with. Dean’s empathy, compassion and skill in working with people with diverse life experiences is an amazing asset to our team.
Dean has supported SRAAs Substance Use and Suicide Risk training, in addition to those workshops with components including psychological interviewing, Safety Planning and Means Restriction Counselling.
Dean has facilitated therapy groups in rehabilitation settings, specific to drug and alcohol abuse, relapse prevention, recovery and living in abstinence and relationships. His insights and knowledge, clearly extend well beyond these domains.
He has a special interest in supporting others find meaning; and teaching others through role play and reflective practice.
